Hiya! I’m CET Blacksmith, but all my favorite people call me Smitty. I am a 69lb black and white boy. I will be 2 years old on December 17th, but I am very relieved to be retired from racing! Even though I love running, I don’t like loud noises or being near things that are moving very fast. After trying for a few days, I finally got my humans to take me for a run! I decided I was done after about 2 miles. Now I want to run at least once a day, but twice would make me even happier. I’ll only run on a lead though, even when offered a large fenced space I won’t run without company. Even though I could run a lot faster, I am a good pacer, and am happy to run only as fast as my human can manage. I also love walks, and if it’s quiet out, I will walk for miles. I can sometimes be stubborn when I want to go a particular direction, but mostly I will follow whoever I’m walking with.
I love meeting people, especially kids. I will stop everything if there is a tiny person to visit with. I am cat safe (so far!), but I don’t much like other dogs. Any barking will make me run in the opposite direction as fast as I can go. I currently live in a house with hardwood and tile, and am doing pretty well with both. I can handle going down wooden stairs if they are shallow (the outside deck steps are perfect), and I can go up pretty much any stairs now. I can also get into and out of the car all by myself. But I’m not very good about laying down, so I need a hammock to keep me safe in the back seat.
I’m a very picky eater, and there are some things I just won’t eat at all. I love yogurt, but hate pumpkin. I won’t even eat treats with pumpkin in them! I prefer to eat a little bit at a time, and will save food for later. I’m mostly good about not eating things that aren’t for me, even when it’s cat food! I’m a good tooth brusher, and love ear rubs, being brushed, and getting belly rubs.
I like plushy toys best, but I’m not really sure how to play with them yet. I have a dino that I love to carry around, and a fluffy pig that I sleep with. I recently got to pick out a new toy of my very own, and now Lambchop is my best friend! I take her everywhere with me and even use her to tell my people that it's time for bed. When lambchop goes to bed everyone should follow!
When I am interested, I can do a couple basic commands like “wait”, “let’s go”, and “come”. I’m not interested for very long though. I’m not a big fan of my crate. I prefer to lay spread out, but I’ll go into it if I need to. I much prefer sleeping sprawled out on a dog bed, or a bathroom rug, or even a stolen bed quilt. My mortal enemies are garage doors, garbage trucks, and having a closed door anywhere in the house. I really don’t like being left alone, even for a second, and I will follow people from room to room all day if I can. I’m a sweet, mischievous boy, and I love to pick people’s pockets for things I can’t use, like keys and sunglasses. I don’t chew them though. That would be rude!
