Foster families automatically can adopt the grey they foster
UPDATE 8/23/23
Watson is an old soul with puppy energy. He loves to find the squeakers in toys and collect things (stuffies, shoes, paper) in his bed. Watsons foster parents are working with him on the appropriate things to chew on and not to chew on.
Watson is great in a crate. He will go in when his humans say “crate”. He does get a treat for going in. Watson is very food motivated. It seems like Watson is still a growing boy’s.
Watson is very smart. He figured out how to unscrew the lid off of a peanut butter jar and he likes his kibble from a puzzle slow feeder.
Watson‘s favorite thing to do is watch the outdoor farm cats. He is not cat safe because he stands very still and waits for the cats to come under the fence and then he tries to pounce on them. It’s fun game that he loves to do every morning.
Watson is good with children and good with groups of people moving around and him not being skittish of all the movement. He is not the biggest fan of being out doors or in a big open room with people but he loves a smaller room and crowds.
Watson has taken to his foster dad more than his foster mom so he is great with men. At first he can be standoffish around tall people. He prefers his humans to be sitting down and scratching him behind his ears.
Watson would love a forever home with lots of cuddles that are only interrupted by short bursts of playtime. And treats. Lots of treats.
ORIGINAL POST
I have been extremely busy this weekend and haven’t had time to post about Foster Watson. The best way I can describe Watson is Easy. Which is good because I’ve barley had time to sleep. He settles in when the humans settle down. He eats all of his food. And even tries to eat Pickett‘s food. He has peed and pooped outside. And he hasn’t shown any aggression (even though Pickett is a grump).
Foster Watson is an old soul. All of my family who have seen him so far have said that he looks much older than 20 months. Most of the time he doesn’t have that topical puppy energy.
Watson may be the only one in the house that remembers his name. For some reason my brother and I keep almost calling him Wilson or Winston and I don’t know why. Watson will respond to his name. He doesn’t always come when called but he perks up at his name.
Him knowing his name came in very handy within the first 5 minutes of being home. He is a bit of an escape artist. The bigger gate in our yard is normally closed and locked with two chains. One at the top and one closer to the ground. At some point my father hooked the two chains together so the gate can open just enough for Watson to a squeeze through. I called his name and he came back to the fence so I could hold his collar while James went around to get him. I almost had a heart attack. James fixed the gate and we reprimanded my father.
Watson has slept through the night every night he’s been with us. I am a night owl so our bedtimes have been around 1:00am. The first night Watson slept in till 6:00am. The second night I fell asleep on the couch and Watson put himself to bed in his crate until 4 AM when I woke up. At that time I let both boys out and then we slept in my room until 10 AM.
Watson is a collector. He likes to bring things to his bed or crate. He has taken several shoes, but not chewed them, just collected them in his bed. He found the toy basket and put every single toy either in his crate or on his bed. Then he had to go into Pickett’s crate to lay down because he had nowhere else to lay down comfortably. We haven’t played with toys outside yet but he enjoys them inside. At bedtime, which is one or two in the morning, he gets a burst of energy to play with toys. He is still working on how the bed works.
He hasn’t taken treats out of our hands yet but if we put it on the ground or in his crate he will eat it eventually. He likes to sniff and lick and think about the treat before he finishes it. It took him all day to finish his green dental treat.
Watson settles when the humans settle. If we are up and moving around he wants to figure out what we’re doing. If we sit down he lays down, goes to sleep, and settles right in. He hasn’t figured out how to tell us when he needs to go outside to the bathroom yet. The humans were up and cleaning the house and moving around a lot so he was too. He had an accident in his belly band. But there’s only been that one accident and he’s been good about going outside every other time. No marking in the house.
Watson is not so sure about sounds but the storms didn’t seem to bother him too much. He was a little confused by the flashing lights of the lightning but not scared by them. He was a little confused as to why Pickett was anxious and why Pickett wanted to be in the bathroom.
Watson does great in his crate. No whining. He almost goes in when I say “crate”, like Pickett does, but he stops just outside. Watson is a tall boy. He has to duck so his hips/bellyband don’t get caught on the door frame.
Pickett is setting boundaries as always so he is still in face jail. He has warmed up to Watson the fastest of all the fosters.
Hopefully I’ll be able to post more frequently. I might not be able to write as much but I will definitely be able to post pictures.
