Foster families automatically can adopt the grey they foster.
Hi! My name is RCK Fire N Ice, but everyone calls me “Icy”. I am an average size dark brindle female. My foster mom says that I am very beautiful, but that I must go to a very special home, preferably one that has experience with greyhounds like me.
I am what is called a “spook” in the greyhound world. I am beyond “shy” or “skittish”. I was not mistreated. This is a genetic condition and if you would like to learn more, my foster mom suggests that you read the article by Dennis McKeon entitled, “Idiopathic Fear and Withdrawal in Greyhounds.” It can be found here:
I am very young, but do not act like the typical young greyhound. This is because of my fears. I must have a quiet home (young children terrify me) and a fenced yard (probably 6 ft. tall). Ideally, my forever home would have a smaller, fenced in “potty area” for me to go in. If I am too scared to come in the house, you would not be able to catch me in the yard to bring me in! I also need a confident greyhound to follow. In my foster home, there are 4 greyhounds and a little 7 pound dog. I ignore the little dog, but I follow the greyhounds in and out of the house.
Right now, I do NOT like to be touched and will run from you if you try to pet me! This will probably get much better with a LOT of time and patience. My foster mom has some experience with spooky greyhounds and can give you lots of pointers. I may not be at meet and greets for a while because I am just not ready to be around people I don’t know yet. I am a very special girl and my foster mom assures me that things will get better and better for me and that my forever home is out there. I just need to be patient for the perfect human(s) to come along!
